Dissimilatory nitrate reduction processes in surface sediments of shrimp ponds during the culture period

چکیده

Intensive aquaculture in estuaries and coasts has resulted several ecological environmental problems. Among various nitrogen transformation pathway, dissimilatory nitrate (NO 3 - ) reduction is considered to be highly important regulating reactive nitrogen. However, there are relatively few studies on the processes contribution of NO x sediment during shrimp pond culture period. Three processes, denitrification (DNF), anaerobic ammonium oxidation (ANA), (DNRA), were surveyed eight ponds across three subtropical using 15 N isotope tracing experiments. The rates DNF, ANA DNRA ranged from 2.87–18.11, 0.10–1.92, 0.21–1.25 nmol g -1 h , respectively. DNF was responsible for 64.2–91.6% total reduction. Regarding factors, C substrates, as well salinity, significantly affected In general, losses approximately 32.43–131.64 m -2 yr 2.38–15.85 this study, indicating that coastal reclamation a nonnegligible way remove Our results provide scientific foundation understanding mechanism cycling artificial aquatic environment ponds.

Dissimilatory nitrate reduction in anaerobic sediments leading to river nitrite accumulation.

Recent studies on Northern Ireland rivers have shown that summer nitrite (NO(inf2)(sup-)) concentrations greatly exceed the European Union guideline of 3 (mu)g of N liter(sup-1) for rivers supporting salmonid fisheries. In fast-flowing aerobic small streams, NO(inf2)(sup-) is thought to originate from nitrification, due to the retardation of Nitrobacter strains by the presence of free ammonia. ...

Dissimilatory nitrate reduction by Propionibacterium acnes.

Propionibacterium acnes P13 was isolated from human feces. The bacterium produced a particulate nitrate reductase and a soluble nitrite reductase when grown with nitrate or nitrite. Reduced viologen dyes were the preferred electron donors for both enzymes. Nitrous oxide reductase was never detected. Specific growth rates were increased by nitrate during growth in batch culture. Culture pH stron...

Nitrate Storage and Dissimilatory Nitrate Reduction by Eukaryotic Microbes

The microbial nitrogen cycle is one of the most complex and environmentally important element cycles on Earth and has long been thought to be mediated exclusively by prokaryotic microbes. Rather recently, it was discovered that certain eukaryotic microbes are able to store nitrate intracellularly and use it for dissimilatory nitrate reduction in the absence of oxygen. The paradigm shift that th...

Dissimilatory bacterial reduction of Al-substituted goethite in subsurface sediments

The microbiologic reduction of a 0.2 to 2.0 mm size fraction of an Atlantic coastal plain sediment (Eatontown) was investigated using a dissimilatory Fe(III)-reducing bacterium (Shewanella putrefaciens, strain CN32) to evaluate mineralogic controls on the rate and extent of Fe(III) reduction and the resulting distribution of biogenic Fe(II). Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD) we...
